The main focus of my work is portrait commissions which I produce in oil. I select quality materials, such as linen canvas, natural pigments and traditional mediums and varnishes to ensure the longevity of my work. Drawings in charcoal or pencil are an alternative, more economical possibility. I prefer to work directly from life since this is the most rewarding approach to the commission and adds to the character of the final artwork. However, I can use photographs for posthumous works or when the sitter has limited time available. Where photographs are to be used, it is necessary to consult as to the suitability of the image.
Typical portrait formats include:
24 x 20 in (60 x 50 cm) - Head study;
30 x 25 in (80 x 60 cm) - Head and shoulders;
36 x 28 in (90 x 70 cm ) - Half-length with hands;
96 x 60 in (240 x 150 cm) - Full-length standing.
Portrait studies in oil are available from £300, drawings are less.
I also offer 'treasured objects' still lifes, which take the form of a collection of objects that are significant to the recipient, as well as favourite landscape scenes.
